Preserving North America's Historic Fruit Tree Cultivars

The Historic Fruit Tree Working Group focuses on documenting the historical significance of fruit tree cultivars and verifying their identities through a standardized naming process, including DNA profiling. We record conservation efforts and availability of these cultivars by developing collaborative, interoperable information systems and geographical cataloging tools. Additionally, we provide networking opportunities for the fruit tree conservation community, including a public web interface that facilitates education and collaboration.

The Historic Fruit Tree Working Group focuses on documenting the historical significance of fruit tree cultivars and verifying their identities through a standardized process which includes DNA profiling, historical research and provenance. We record conservation efforts and availability of these cultivars by developing collaborative, interoperable information systems and geographical cataloging tools. Additionally, we are establishing a preservation network to ensure that these cultivars are not lost and are made available to the public for use. Our efforts are also providing many networking opportunities for the entire fruit tree community.
